Syrian security forces prevented Friday evening a demonstration in support of the regime in Damascus following what organizers described as "incitement of the Syrian people over the Internet." According to the London-based Al Quds Al Arabi , the demonstration was to include dozens of cars driven by young Syrians. It was supposed to start from Al Jala'a (Evacuation) Square adjacent to al Mazze – Damascus highway.
After the demonstrators told they can't start their rally they went home peacefully.
Sources close to the Syrian regime blamed Lebanon's Caretaker PM, Saad Hariri, officials from Obama administration and aides close to the Syrian president's uncle, Rifaat al-Assad of trying to "plot against Syria and weaken its strength in the region." Last week, many unknown groups in the Internet called for mass demonstrations against the Syrian regime similar to those in Egypt and Tunisia.
These sources said that after Hariri's failure to keep his job as Lebanese Prime Ministry he was looking for any means by which to embarrass the Syrian regime. Syria expects that in the near future Hariri and his supporters will try to intensify their campaign against Damascus. These efforts are coordinated with Washington.
