Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday accepted the resignation of the government chaired by Mohammad Naji Otri. The Syrian leader tasked the resigned government with conducting affairs until a new government is formed.
Otri formed his government in September 2003, after the resignation of Mohammed Mustafa Miro.
This political development came as millions of Syrians held rallies on Tuesday in support of the president. The demonstrations, organized by the regime, were held in all the Syrian provinces.
The participants in the rallies voiced slogans in support of preserving the national unity, security and stability.
