Syria's Finance Minister Muhammad al-Hussein has announced a plan to provide 10,000 jobs in the government sector, in addition to 63,000 jobs that will be provided this year. Hussein made the announcement before the Syrian People's Assembly (Parliament).
As the unemployment rate grows, the Syrian government announced its intention to create new job opportunities for university graduates in the public and private sectors. The Syrian Interior Minister Saeed Samur has spoken about a possibility to employ about 20,000 people in his ministry. On his part, the Minister of Justice Ahmad Hammoud Younes declared his intention to employ 4377 people in his ministry this year.
Official figures show that unemployment rate is about 8.1 percent of the total population of 22 million people. It stands on 16 percent of unemployment in the category of young people below 30 years. The Syrian government hopes to reduce unemployment to to 7.4 percent.
