Reports: Mubarak refuses to get medical treatment

The Egyptian prosecution on Monday will launch its investigation into the sources of the wealth of former Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, his wife and his two sons. Meanwhile, well-informed sources close to Mubarak said that the ousted President is ill but refuses to get treatment. The same sources said that Mubarak is in a very difficult psychological condition and he insists not to leave the country under any circumstances.

The Al Wafd newspaper said the investigation into the Egyptian President and his family's wealth comes following a complaint filed to Prosecutor-General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud last Wednesday, asking him to investigate the sources of the wealth of Mubarak family. The complaint was based on press reports, which stated that the amount of wealth of the former president, ranging from US$40 to US$70 billion.

In a related development, informed sources close to Mubarak said that the ousted President refuses to get treatment. Close sources said Mubarak is "depressed," adding that a medical team had arrived two days ago to Sharm el-Sheikh. The Al Gomhuria newspaper quoted Egyptian sources as saying that the former president insisted on not leaving the country under any circumstances. Mubarak is staying in a private villa with his family in the resort region, located in the Sinai Peninsula on the Red Sea. The place is subject to tight security.
