A senior official in Jordan's the Muslim Brotherhood movement confirmed on Sunday it had rejected an offer made by Prime Minister-designate Marouf Bakhit to join the government. He offered them five portfolios, the Islamists said that the rejection came in accordance to the Movement's principles.
The Political chief of the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Zaki Bani Irsheid was quoted as saying on Sunday "yesterday the group received an offer from the PM-designate, to enter in the new government." According to Bani Irsheid, Bakhit contacted the leaders of the movement and offered them to "unconditionally" participate in government without going into details."
He added that after the initial refusal, Bakhit made another offer, which included five portfolios. This offer was also rejected.
Irsheid stressed that the IAF demands to resolve the House of Representatives and go to new elections based on new laws. After these elections, the Islamists will support the formation of new government.
Bani Irsheid noted that "if the group participates in the upcoming government, it would lose its public position and among the supporters of the national forces."
