Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi attacked demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square and their demand for President Mubarak's ouster. He said that Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV and Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi were the leading instigators against the Rgyptian leader.
This came in a meeting of the Libyan leader with a group of media professionals, journalists and activists in social networking sites for the past three days. The discussions focused on developments in Tunisia and Egypt.
A Libyan newspaper said Gaddafi expressed his concern and anger at what is happening in Egypt. He defended President Mubarak saying: "Mubarak is poor and can not buy his clothes, and thus we offer him our support." He asserted that Israel's "Mossad agents" were behind what is happening in Egypt. It should be noted that various reports over the weekend claimed that Mubarak's family's wealth estimated at about $ 70 billion.
He also defended the deposed President of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, saying: "The Tunisians hate him because his wife is from Tarabulsi family."
Gaddafi has warned Libyans not to be involved in any acts which will harm security or cause chaos, vowing that their tribes will be held responsible in the event of doing so.
The newspaper said that Gaddafi warning to the attendees, mostly from cities in east Libya, indicated the fears among the Libyan authorities from demonstrations. Sources say opposition groups plan to declare February 17th as a Day Of Anger to mark the anniversary of the Student Uprising against the rule of Colonel Gaddafi, who took power in 1969.
