In his first public remarks after assuming the presidency of the Secretariat of the ruling National Democratic Party in Egypt, Dr. Hossam Badrawi called Sunday to cancel the state of emergency immediately after restoring security. He also called for constitutional amendments including Article 88 in order to ensure effective judicial supervision of elections.
This came in the framework of the national dialogue, which was held Sunday under the chairmanship of Omar Suleiman, the Vice President of Egypt. This meeting brought together different political forces.
The new lineup of the Secretariat of the ruling party also held its first meeting on Sunday morning, headed by Badrawi. The meeting discussed the role and responsibilities of the party in the next stage and the search for mechanisms of action in order to achieve "effective communication channels with members of the party in different levels."
On Saturday, the exclusion Safwat Al-Sherif and Gamal Mubarak from the Secretariat of the Party was declared. The new chairman, Hossam Badrawi is known as an outspoken critic of the previous policies adopted by the National Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar, said Al-Azhar is following with great concern, all the comments and opinions expressed by regional and global leaders regarding the event in the country. Sheikh Al-Azhar voiced a complete rejection of all attempts for foreign interference in Egypt's internal affairs. In this context, he strongly condemned recent Iranian remarks on the situation. He also rejected the statements by European and American officials, who try to seize the opportunity and trying to intervene in Egyptian domestic affairs.
