Egypt's Vice-President, Omar Suleiman, agreed at the meeting Sunday with representative of a number of opposition parties to form a committee, which will prepare constitutional amendments within one the month. The sides agreed to promote constitutional amendments in face of challenges and risks faced by the country. These resulted in the deterioration of security conditions for the citizens and huge economic losses to Egyptian economy.
The participants also agreed to a national dialogue on temporary political arrangements until the election of a new president when President Hosni's Mubarak mandate ends in September. The participants agreed on the implementation of the commitments made in Mubarak's speech on February 1, which included his promise not to run for the presidency and a the peaceful transition of powers according to the provisions of the Constitution.
Suleiman meeting included leaders and representatives of national forces among them the Muslim Brotherhood. The meeting was aimed at finding a way out of the crisis. The liberal Wafd party and the leftist Party ss well as independent political figures and businessmen, including Naguib Sawiris, attended the meeting.
After that meeting, Suleiman met 6 representatives of young protesters from Tahrir Square.
For her part, the U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcomed Sunday the participation of the Muslim Brotherhood in the political talks now under way in Egypt.
She said that Washington "will wait to see the" how these talks progress. "Today we learned that the Muslim Brotherhood decided to participate in the dialogue. This means they at least now participants in the dialogue, whose launch we encouraged."
She added: "We will wait and see how it develops, but we were very clear about what we expect."
