Egypt on Thursday urged activists to cancel a march aimed at crossing into the Gaza Strip to show support for the Palestinians. In a statement Thursday, authorities called on activists to give priority to internal issues and "to prevent any repercussions that might result from this march."
A Facebook campaign called for rallies Friday and a march toward the border on Sunday, called the "Sunday of Liberation."
According to the AP, Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has expressed support to a rally in central Cairo on Friday but does not favor the march to Gaza.
