A video is circulating on the internet of Mosque-goers in Jordan stepping over photographs of Shia clerics such as Ayatollah Sistani as well as posters of Iranian flags. The photographs are placed along a path leading to the entrance of a Mosque in the city of Mafraq in the north of Jordan.

The location of this expression of sectarianism is somewhat ironic considering Mafraq is home to a cemetery for Iraq martyrs who died fighting for Palestine in 1948 and 1967, many of these soldiers would have been Shia Muslims
Bashar Al-Assad and Ayatollah Khomeini also feature on the posters, and from photographs of the event alone one may be lead to think of this as a protest against certain political factions, but the video clarifies intentions as strictly sectarian driven. The Mosque goers, some of whom are very young children, are told ‘step on them, they’re Shi’ites, God curse them’ as they make their way to the entrance of the Mosque to pray.
The event took place on the 14th April 2017, and a source on twitter told Al bawabathat although not organised by the Mosque directly, there was no attempt from them to stop what was happening.
The source, who wishes to remain anonymous, also confirmed that following the Friday sermon the two men leading the demonstration proceeded to burn some of the posters and the Iranian flag.
