LG Electronics sponsors Jordanian Marathon Champion Suleiman Al Zboun

LG Electronics, the world leader in communication and information technology, recently announced that it will be sponsoring the Jordanian Marathon Champion, Suleiman Al Zboun, as part of its responsibility towards the local community, in addition to its strong desire to support local talent and enhance their skill set.

LG Electronics’ sponsorship will be manifested through building its client’s skills; the amazing attributes that won him first place at the LG Ultra Marathon at the Dead Sea, for a distance of 50 Kms, for two consecutive years (2010-2011). LG will be providing financial support to the champion for next season to ensure his participation, and to promote him on a local and regional level.

LG Electronics Brand and Marketing Manager, Firas Shabaneh, commented on the partnership during a press conference held at the LG Headquarters. He said: “The decision that LG Electronics made regarding the sponsorship of the exquisite and talented marathon champion, Suleiman Al Zboun, comes as part of LG’s strategy to support social and athletic activities that carry a noble goal.”

Ultra marathon champion, Suleiman Al Zboun, gave a remarkable performance during the 18^th annual LG Ultra Marathon at the Dead Sea, and won first place for the 50Km race. Al Zboun also won first place at the Aqaba Marathon in 2010, and second place in the Amman International Marathon the same year. He received the title of champion for all races and qualifying half marathons in the Kingdom, held since 2002.

Al Zboun participated in several international marathons as well, including the Read Sea International Marathon at which he won first place for the 42Km race in 2010. He also won first place (first Arab and seventh international) at the Beirut International Marathon in 2007 and the golden medal for the International Lebanon half marathon in 2006, the Beirut International half marathon in 2007 and the Damascus International marathon in Syria in 2007. He also participated in the world cross country championship in Amman, Jordan, in 2009, as well as the world across country championship 33 in France.

LG is constantly striving to promote excellence in various fields and disciplines. It is because this Jordanian champion showed that he has what it takes to represent Jordan in marathons across the globe that the company decided to take this initiative, like many other initiatives it launched including the LG Harat League: a notion that touched the lives of Children nationally, and helped protect them from the dangers of road accidents.

It is worth mentioning that the LG Harat League is currently taking place - under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, in public schools spread across the Kingdom. 3500 children, aged between 9-13, are competing to represent their own “Harat” (neighborhoods) in July, and qualify to win the opportunity to visit the Real Madrid Club and watch a live Real Madrid match in the very own Bernabeu stadium in the Spanish capital of Madrid.

LG has also supported the restoration of 300 playgrounds for children under the initiative "playgrounds", launched by Hikmar Road Safety, which aims at rehabilitating and restoring playgrounds in various public schools across the Kingdom, enabling students to enjoy sports in a safe and comfortable environment after school hours and during summer holidays.

LG is also proud to be the official sponsor of the Annual Dead Sea Ultra Marathon, which is known to be one of the biggest and most prominent local and international sporting charity event. The company has been supporting this marathon for 18 consecutive years, where this charity event raises financial aid for the Society for Care of Neurological Patients.
