The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Egypt has sent a complaint letter to the Egyptian Attorney General requesting that prominent Egyptian comedian actor Saeed Saleh be banned from appearing in the media, whether it be on television, radio, internet, newspapers or magazines.

According to the internet website MBC.net, the complaint came after the actor had said publically that he encourages young people to have sex before marriage in order to gain experience, a matter that is completely against the teachings of Islam.

The letter also demanded that Saeed be prosecuted for his remarks which the Council considers it as persuading young people to misbehave. The council had received numerous complaints about Saeed stating that his remarks call for the destruction of beliefs and ethical standards in society.

Saleh had previously said that it is an honor for any female artists to be kissed by him, especially since his kiss is one of a kind. He had also said that he sees nothing with people having sex before marriage as long as the two engaging in sexual intercourse have an agreement to get married.

During a televised interview, Saleh had stated that he supports prominent Egyptian actor Adel Imam’s decision not to allow his daughter to act in order to not be kissed by men, and also said that he will not allow his daughter to act for the same reason. The actor noted that he is against actresses who act wearing the Islamic headdress (Hijab) considering it a contradiction.

An Egyptian lawyer had also filed a lawsuit against the actor accusing him of promoting adultery and social chaos by his remarks about sex before marriage. The lawsuit had also called for banning Saleh from appearing in different forms of the media.

On his part, Saleh stated that it is not anyone’s business to interfere in his personal opinion about different subjects. Adding that his remarks should not give rise to all this chaos and that he is a sane Muslim and at his age is not in need of anyone to guide him about what is right and wrong.
