International workshop at HMC to focus on research writing

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is hosting the 2^nd International Advanced Workshop on Basic Principles of Scientific Writing of Medical Articles from 23^rd to 25^th June at Hajar auditorium in Medical Education Department. It aims at training doctors from various specialties in the finer aspects of medical research writing and its successful submit ion.

The scientific writing workshop is been held under the leadership of Dr. Abdul Latif Al Khal, Chairman of Medical Education Department and Chairman of Medicine Department and has been positioned as an educational activity for researchers.

It has been organized by the Urology section along with Surgery department and Medical Education Department as part of effort to enable the researchers to learn the nuances of scientific medical writing and its publication.

The three day advanced workshop is being conducted by Professor. Ahmed A. Shokeir, Assistant Director of Urology and Nephrology Centre, Al Mansoura University, Egypt.

“We have confirmed participation from over 100 medical researchers from Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Kuwait. The aim of the international workshop is equip the medical researchers to write successful scientific papers, which can also be published in international medical journals,” said Dr. Abdulla Al Naimi, Head of Urology Section at HMC, and main organizer for the workshop.

Participants to the three day advanced workshop will be taught on many aspects of doing research. Professor. Ahmed A. Shokeir will deal at length on topics such Study Designs in Medical Research, Basic Principles of Statistics, How to Select a Proper Statistical Test, How to Write an Original Article among many other area of interests to the researchers.

Researchers will also be trained on using the advanced Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) computer program which empowers them in statistical and data analysis.

“This year we will also inform the researchers on the finer aspects dealing with successful international publication of scientific papers. Many of the ethical questions in research will also be addressed so that researchers do not face rejection, while submitting proposals,” Dr. Khalid Al Rumaihi, Assistant Section Head of Urology, said.

The organizers of advanced scientific writing of medical articles workshop at HMC aim to hold its edition next year with more theoretical and practical inputs for researchers from across the Middle East.
