Kids Fashion Week, a signature event of DSS 2009, opened to packed crowds in its opening day in Deira City Centre on Friday, July 24. Young models aged between 4 and 10 years marched on to the ramp wearing some of the latest trends by leading international brands in children’s fashion.
Participating brands for this year include Okaidi, United Colors of Benetton, AIIZ, Bhs kids, WOOLWORTHS AND STADIUM, and Giordano Kids. Shows are held at 6:30pm everyday. An innovative aspect of this year’s Kids Fashion Week is that shows are based on a particular theme where all brands participate daily. The themes are School’s Out, Sporty, Fun & Funky, Surfs Up, I’m So Cool, and Let’s Party. Kids Fashion will go on till July 30th.

The Collectors, a signature event of DSS 2009 and an exhibition featuring various unique collectibles and artifacts, will begin on Monday, July 27, at Wafi, a key sponsor of this year’s DSS. The Collectors features rare, distinctive, and unusual collections of objects and items that have sometimes also gained entry in the record books. The exhibition is open from 10am to 10pm and will go on till August 7.
Collections displayed this year include vintage cars and stamps by the Al Serkal Cultural Foundation, cufflinks, watches, musical instruments and equipments, 101 Dalmatian plush toys, Harley Davidson motorcycles, coins, antique cameras, precious and semi-precious stones, and numerous other miscellaneous collectibles.
Shajahan Unneen, General Manager for Wafi Property said, “DSS 2009 is providing unlimited opportunities and exciting activities that include entertainment, shopping and raffle draws for thousands of visitors and residents to have the opportunity to enjoy the warm ambience, genuine Arabian hospitality and exceptional offers at affordable prices. Wafi is proud to host The Collectors for the second consecutive year as there are many rare and interesting items from remarkable collections for everyone to enjoy and to inspire beginners to take up this rewarding hobby.”
Yousif Mubarak, Chief Operations Officer said, “Since its inception in 2005, The Collectors has been successful in not only attracting collectors from around the world but also bringing elements of diverse cultures in one venue. The exhibition is an exciting event because it showcases collections of seemingly miscellaneous objects, but when these are collected from around the world, the display inherits a special value. The exhibits also demonstrate the efforts taken by the collectors in creating an irreplaceable set of objects, big or small, inexpensive or priceless, but all the same, unique in every sense.”
