Italian football giants and current Italian Serie A league champions Juventus FC agreed Monday to sign Rashid al-Hajjawi, a 10 year old ‘wonderkid’ of Palestinian heritage from Norway. Al-Hajjawi has become famous for the YouTube videos that display the child’s impressive skills on the pitch.
Starting from the current season, al-Hajjawi will join Juventus’ under-10 team with the hopes that he will continue developing and eventually join the main squad, according to Sky News Arabia and other media outlets.
Al-Hajjawi was first discovered via a series of YouTube videos posted online showcasing the the child’s skills. Though only 10 years old, al-Hajjawi displays remarkable skill and understanding of the game - a feat that made his videos viral and later grabbed the attention of international football clubs like Juventus.
At time of writing, al-Hajjawi’s official Facebook page has nearly 14,000 likes and shows pictures of the young player meeting with various football personalities, including his “legend” Zinedine Zidane.
According to The New Arab, Juventus FC released an official statement describing their excitement after signing the boy, adding that he will proudly “defend the colors of Juventus” as the first Palestinian player in the team’s history.
