The United States’ continued support for Turkey during its campaign against Kurds — while the US supports the Kurdish campaign against Daesh (ISIS) with airstrikes — has some scratching their heads.
While the People’s Protection Units (YPG) fighting Daesh aren’t the same group as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey, the two groups are closely linked and have similar military goals to help move Kurdish claims on territory forward. But the US administration made it clear it considers the PKK a terrorist group.
One socialist group based in Oakland, Calif., is campaigning against Turkey’s airstrikes against Kurds. And they’re using public lights to do it.
