Prominent Egyptian actress Yusra has given her approval to star in the new television drama series “Al Daktoora Abla wa Thi’ab Al Madina” (Dr. Abla and the wolves of the city), which is scheduled for screening during the Ramadan season.

According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, the drama tackles the issue of rape and how women in the city are subject to vicious attacks by sexual assailants. The idea of the drama is based on the fact that the rate of women raped in the Arab world has increased tremendously in the recent period.

The drama will focus on victims of rape and how society views them as sinners and as if they have committed evil crimes. Actual figures will be stated in the drama like the fact that 99 percent of rapes occur while the victim is sedated and 93 percent of women who are raped do not report the incident fearing the consequences of how society will treat them.

The new drama is written by Muhsin Al Jalad, production by Jamal Al Adel and directed by Syrian director Mohammad Azizieh, marking his first directing experience in Egypt.

Yusra will play the role of a university professor, who teaches child medicine.

The actress is also preparing to star in a new radio drama titled “Primadona Her Majesty”, which is written by Mahmoud Ali Fahmi and directed by Nashwi Abdul Min’em.
