“I didn’t think of it as acting. I lived with my character as if it was the real me.”
These were the words of Egyptian mega star Yusra on her exceptional role in her latest series, now showing, Awan El Ward (Time of the Flowers).
In an interview with Egypt’s Al Ahram newspaper, the actress revealed much about this controversial series and the stir it has caused among Egyptian Christians and Moslems alike.
Time of Flowers depicts the story of a half Christian woman who marries a Moslem man. Their relationship is cool and quiet until the day the now pregnant woman gives birth. Her baby is only 2-days old when he is abducted from the hospital.
The problems between Christians and Moslem’s in Egypt are constantly touched upon throughout the series. So much so, that some critics have been calling it ‘daring’ and ‘aggressive.’
Yusra, however, is happy with the success of the show.
“I am hoping that our viewers will stick with us till it ends… This is what worries me the most,” she said, adding “the success achieved by ‘Awan el Ward’ has placed me in a great place of responsibility in front of my audience although I chose my projects very carefully, which is why I do not work very often.”
As for her character in the series, Yusra explained that she “fell in love with Amal from the moment I read the script and became very attached to her. Maybe this is why I portray her so well.
She added, “I think that the success of this show is a result of various factors; the most important are the faith of the crew as a team, from the actors to the producers to the idea of the show itself. We are all adamant about doing our best in our jobs and that is one reason.
Meanwhile, the series director Samir Seif has begun shooting the final episodes of the police romantic story.
Surprisingly enough, the final chapter of the show has not been revealed by the writer yet, who is adamant on totally surprising his cast and viewers on the day of filming. – Albawaba.com.
