The Egyptian International director Yousef Shahin participated in the students’ demonstrations Tuesday in front of Cairo University. A large number of artists and intellectuals and thousands of students participated in the event and shouted slogans against the Israeli aggression and the American position.
A large number of these artists and intellectuals were keen to express their utmost rage over the Israeli occupation army actions in Palestine through participating in the demonstration which set out from Cairo University. Participating in the event were Gamal al Ghaitani, Ibrahim Aslan, Latifah, Hanan Turk, director Yousef Khaled, Saif Abdel Rahman and Farouk al Fishawi.
The security forces fired tear gases, which caused the director Yousef Shahin asphyxiation after which he was admitted to the hospital where he received treatment for three hours. The singer Latifa and actress Hanan al Turk were injured too. Shahin denounced the way the security forces dealt with the intellectuals and artists.
In a conversation with the daily al Hayat, the director Khaled Yousef called for “cutting the relations with Israel and dismissing its representatives in the Arab countries in addition to removing the Israeli flags from the Arab countries.”
The Egyptian intellectuals and artists issued a statement calling the world nations to support the armless Palestinian people. They said, “we the undersigned, the Egyptian intellectuals and artists call upon all people with free conscience worldwide to support the armless Palestinians who face an extensive eradication campaign and ugly massacre launched by the Israeli occupation army which is armed with the most advanced weapons.” -- Albawaba.com
