Egyptian actor Yahia Al Fakhrani is currently gearing up for roles in two plays, Hallaq Baghdad (Baghdad Baber) and Al Malek Lear (King Lear).
This is in addition to shooting a series called Farouk Al Awwal Wal Akhir (Farouq, the First and Last) written by his wife, Lamis Jaber, and written by Yusri Al Jundi.
“I am making preparations to appear in two plays from Arab and international culture: Hallaq Baghdad, written by Alfred Faraj and directed by Mohsen Hilmi, and Al Malek Lear, directed by the new director Hani Abdel Mua’tamed.
“Jamal Bakhit will write the poems for the two plays in the Egyptian colloquial language under the direction of the Hani Abdel Mua’tamed, who is a young man with a good theatrical vision and who is expected to achieve big success,” Fakhrani told the daily Al Gumhouriyyah.
“I am waiting for a good comedy or tragedy, whether at the cinema, stage or TV. I am an artist, and I am primarily interested in the subject I present to my audience, but not in the means through which this subject is to be presented.
“I have agreed with Yusri Al Jundi to present the famed character of Jeha in a comedy performance. More than one idea and issue can be presented through this very rich character,” added Fakhrani.
“I have submitted the script for the series Farouk Al Awwal Wal Akhir to the TV and I am waiting the approval of Minister of Information Safwat Al Sharif. It is a huge project, which should be implemented by the government because it needs a hefty budget and tells about the history of our country. My wife Lamis Jaber, who took eight years to study the character of the late king Farouq of Egypt, has scripted the series. My wife reviewed more than 300 reference works, and the series will cover a very important era of our history from the birth until the death of the king.
“The series, which will reveal many facts unknown to people and correct many misunderstandings, particularly the stepping down of the king not only for his personal behavior but also for his mistakes, does not include any fictitious characters. All the characters were real and played their roles during that era.
“The series also is about the king’s relationship with his mother who had strong political views. The series requires travel to more than one place, and the shooting will take place in a large number of palaces.” - Albawaba.com
