The family-oriented Spy Kids, starring Antonio Banderas and Carla Cugino, grabbed the top spot this weekend by a landslide with an estimated $27 million. The film is about a married couple - both spies - who must rely upon their children to save the world, according to Hollywood.com.
Coming in second is the romantic comedy Someone Like You, which earned an estimated $10 million, a respectable showing for this time of year. The film, starring Ashley Judd, Greg Kinnear and Hugh Jackman, details the odd mating habits of men and explores their similarities to males of a more bovine persuasion.
Falling just short of the number two spot is the surprisingly sexy Heartbreakers, which pulled in an estimated $8 million in its second week. The dark comedy, which was number one last weekend, stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sigourney Weaver as money-grubbing con artists.
The new comedy Tomcats -- starring Jerry O'Connell and Shannon Elizabeth, about gambling on the perfect girl - takes the number four spot, raking in an estimated $6.5 million.
Rounding out the top five was The Brothers, the story of African-Americans dealing with romance - and the humor which results. The film earned an estimated $5.8 million, and slides down three notches from number two last week.
The World War II epic Enemy at the Gates finally ended up a notch above its box office enemy, Exit Wounds, bringing in an estimated $5,325,000 to place sixth at the box office this weekend. Enemy at the Gates stars Jude Law and Ed Harris. Exit Wounds, starring Steven Seagal, is a close seventh (down from third place last weekend) with an estimated $4,245,000.
Two Oscar-nominated films take the eighth and ninth spots: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with an estimated $5,020,016 and Traffic with an estimated $4,211,424. Both films are approaching a cumulative total box office of $114 million.
Superstar vehicle The Mexican, with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, takes the tenth spot with an estimated $2,600,000 – Albawaba.com
