Egyptian actress Wafa Amer absence from the scenes in the past had caused the rise of many rumors that she had ended her acting career, married in secrecy, and was thinking seriously of wearing the Islamic headdress (Hijab). With regards to Islam, Wafa admitted to attending religious classes with former actresses, who had given-up acting and dedicated themselves to God, on a regular basis. She stressed that these classes brought comfort and changed many aspects in her daily life.
According to the London based daily, Dar Al Hayat, Wafa said that she began to associate her daily life with the teaching of Islam and became closer to God, in addition to performing the daily pillars of Islam such as praying and reading the holy quran. In a personal interview, Wafa stressed that she does not intend on ending her acting career for its her only source of income and has nothing to do with her dedication to God.
The actress added that she did infact get married but not in secrecy, for she is currently married to a well-respected man who is not part of the acting world. She said that a love story had brought them together, which ended in a blissful union.
Wafa had turned down Egyptian folk singer Shabaan Abdul Rahim for the leading role offered in his upcoming film "Ana Bakrah Israel" (I Hate Israel), which is also the name of the popular single for the singer. Wafa's decision came from the fact that she did not want to costar with Shabaan in order to steer away from the rumors that have circulated about a secret marriage between the two.
Wafa said that the rumors have caused a number of problems for her with her family and psychologically, and she does not wish to put herself in a situation which might jeopardize her happy and stable marriage and family life, even if it means turning down a wonderful role as the one offered to her.
Wafa marks the fourth actress who turns down Shabaan's offer to costar with him. Muna Shalabi, Sumaya Al Khatab, and Hind Sabri, who costarred with Shabaan in his previous film, have all declined and apologized for being unable to accept.
Contradicting what the actress had previously commented regarding her devotion to the teachings of Islam, the Egyptian censors have sent out numerous warnings to her for wearing indecent and seductive cloths on stage while acting in the play “Imsik Hukoma” (Take Charge of a Government) with Tunisian actress Hind Sabri, and Egyptian actors Alaa Mursi, Salah Abdulah, and Ahmad Riziq; Jalal Al Sharqawi directs the play. The actres has ignored previous verbal warnings and went on wearing revealing outfits causing the censors to go in rage,
The censors have warned the producer and director of the play threatening to take away their licenses if the actress does not abide by a certain dress code while appearing on stage. Representative from the censors have attended the screening of the play and reported that the appearance of the actress is inappropriate and too much is being revealed. –Albawaba.com
