Egyptian actress Wafa Amer has without any prior warning packed her bags and stepped down from the theater world announcing her resignation. The actress has closed her mobile phone and is refusing to give out any reason behind her sudden decision, reported the Qatar based daily, Al Raya.
Wafa had been undergoing rehearsals for a play under the direction of Jalal Al Sharqawi, which after the actress’s decision had to be postpone until a later date. The cast of the play revealed that before Wafa announced her resignation, she had a quarrel with the director over the fact that she had skipped a number of rehearsals without prior notice. Wafa went into rage and walked away from the director stressing that she did not care what will become of the play
Amer’s absence from the scenes in the past had caused the rise of many rumors that she had ended her acting career, married in secrecy, and was thinking seriously of wearing the Islamic headdress (Hijab). With regards to Islam, Wafa admitted to attending religious classes with former actresses, who had given-up acting and dedicated themselves to God, on a regular basis. She stressed that these classes brought comfort and changed many aspects in her daily life.
Wafa said that she began to associate her daily life with the teaching of Islam and became closer to God, in addition to performing the daily pillars of Islam such as praying and reading the holy Koran. In a personal interview, Wafa stressed that she does not intend on ending her acting career for its her only source of income and has nothing to do with her dedication to God.
The actress added that she did in fact get married but not in secrecy, for she is currently married to a well-respected man who is not part of the acting world. She said that a love story had brought them together, which ended in a blissful union.
Wafa had turned down Egyptian folk singer Shabaan Abdul Rahim for the leading role offered in his upcoming film "Ana Bakrah Israel" (I Hate Israel), which is also the name of the popular single for the singer. Wafa's decision came from the fact that she did not want to costar with Shabaan in order to steer away from the rumors that have circulated about a secret marriage between the two.
Wafa said that the rumors have caused a number of problems for her with her family and psychologically, and she does not wish to put herself in a situation which might jeopardize her happy and stable marriage and family life, even if it means turning down a wonderful role as the one offered to her.
Wafa marks the fourth actress who turns down Shabaan's offer to costar with him. Muna Shalabi, Sumaya Al Khatab, and Hind Sabri, who costarred with Shabaan in his previous film, have all declined and apologized for being unable to accept. –Albawaba.com
