Egyptian actress Wafaa Amer denied the recent circulating rumor that claims she sent a letter to the new Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi to congratulate him on his appointment. Wafa stated that calling her a hypocrite because she backed out of her previous stance of opposing Morsi are simply not true.
Wafa reiterated that her opinion has not changed regarding Morsi and that she voted for his opponent Ahmed Shafiq whom she believes would have been a better candidate for the position. She felt he was better for Egypt and she will not change her mind until Morsi proves otherwise.
All that being said, Wafa did say that Morsi’s Presidential Inauguration speech touched her, especially when he apologized to the people of the entertainment world. She also felt he was sincere and gave a peace of mind to the Egyptian people when he said that Christians and women will play an important role in society and that he will do all he can in his power to lead the country to prosperity.
Wafa was from the beginning of the election process a strong supporter of Shafiq but nevertheless, she sent out a message to everyone attacking the newly elected President saying he should be given a chance to prove himself and that progress must begin to show in the first 100 days of his claiming office. She also griped that the Egyptian people need to stop their celebrations in the streets and begin to work on the reconstruction of the country.
The actress suggested that a huge celebration should be held at the Cairo Opera House hosted by all the stars and President Mohamed Morsi himself should attend it.
