Arab film icon Faten Hamama sadly passed away on Saturday. Thousands of mourners gathered at a mosque outside Cairo Sunday for the legendary actress's funeral, which was attended by family, friends, celebrities and fans from all over the Arab world.
“The Lady of the Arabic Screen,” as she was known, suffered “a sudden health problem which led to her death,” Egypt’s official news agency MENA reported.
Hamama left behind a great legacy, and the entire region will forever remember her for her classic movie roles and graceful persona.
Hamama, who was less than 10 when she made her screen debut, appeared in almost 100 films and worked with masters of Egypt’s massive film industry, including Youssef Chahine, wrote The Daily Star Lebanon.
A figure of the golden age of Egyptian cinema, Hamama’s career reached its pinnacle in the 1940s and 1950s.
Let's go back down memory as we take a look at the First Lady of Arab cinema's career through this short video biography by Mohamed Khokha. The video was first published in the Daily News Egypt website.
