For the past year and a half, Jordanian singer Toni Qattan's fans closely followed his medical treatment’s progress in Italy.
The 29-year-old singer jetted off to Europe to get treated for liver failure, which, thankfully, ended with a successful liver transplant.
In an interview with host Bader al Agha on the radio show "Wejhet Nathar" (Point of View) on Radio Fann Jordan, Toni spent two hours discussing the nature of his illness and answering fans’ phone calls.
While the majority of callers wished Toni well and expressed their love for him, one caller was a tad more skeptical than the others.
This caller had two specific questions for the young singer: Firstly, he wanted to know if alcohol was the real reason behind Toni’s illness. Secondly, he questioned whether Toni would have been treated for this if he weren't a celebrity.
Toni was disappointed with the caller’s indirect accusations and quickly responded: "Had you been listening to the interview from the beginning you wouldn't have asked me this question!" Toni then told Agha: "I'm disappointed with the way people generalise all celebrities as drunks and womanizers. But I'd like to make it clear to everyone that I, thank God, do not drink nor am I a womanizer; everyone who knows me well knows that about me.”
As for the caller's second question, Qattan said, "I was treated at the Medical City Hospital in Amman at the expense of the government, just like any other Jordanian citizen." He added that the transplant was paid for by the Italian government, who he profusely thanked.
Earlier, Qattan explained that he was born with a natural hardening in the bile ducts, which resulted in his liver failure.
In other news, Toni is currently preoccupied with his upcoming project, which he preferred to keep a secret. He did hint however that the work was written and composed by him, and will be distributed by Haitham Qa'war.
