An Egyptian court has sentenced Egyptian singer Tamer Husni to a three-year jail term, in addition to paying 130 thousand Egyptian pounds to the Egyptian General Administration of Tax Evasion and Taxation Authority, and fined for the exact amount after he attempted to escape from paying overdue taxes on his singing activities that have accumulated to 271 thousand Egyptian pounds.

Investigation tax officials have discovered that the singer has not paid any income tax from concerts, new albums. Tax officials notified the police and demanded legal actions to be taken against the singer. Warnings have been sent to Tamer that legal actions will be taken sentencing him to at least a 3-year prison term if he does not pay by early next year.

It is worthy to highlight that this is not the first case of its kind related to Egyptian artist tax evasion and that most of such cases are usually resolved by a reconciliation between the tax office and the artists and the payment of the overdue taxes.

On a different note, Tamer has completed all preparations for his upcoming album after a long absence and has filmed one of the songs in the form of a video clip. The album features nine songs written by him and producer Naser Mahrous. The album is scheduled for release in the near future. –Albawaba.com
