Egyptian singer Tamer Husni, and friend Haitham Shaker, have been convicted of forgery and sentenced to one month in jail.

Tamer forged legal documents in order to avoid his military service, and was caught using two separate passports, neither of which was legal. He had employed Haitham to forge the documents.

The actor had begun work on his upcoming film "Kul Sana Wi Inta Habibi" (Every Year and You are my Love), alongside Mai Izz El Din and Mais Hamdan, but filming was suddenly stopped after Tamer was arrested.

According to producer Amal Abu Shadi, the entire cast of the film is distressed over the singer’s situation, especially since his prison sentence may be prolonged, making the film’s completion impossible.

Amal stated that he hopes Tamer is released from prison soon, because if he stays behind bars for too long it will jeopardize his career.

Some claim the decision was made in order to show that the court gives no special treatment to stars.
