Syria is currently witnessing an extensive theatrical activities which inaugurate the new theatrical summer season.
The two plays, Kahrab directed by Bassem al Qahar and al Ashaa al Akhir (The Last Supper) directed by actor Bassam Kusa - which participated recently in Amman Theatrical Days - are currently performed at the Syrian theaters, according to the daily Syria Times.
Hinting at religious themes, Kusa who returned to the stage following 10 years of absence, deals with a number of features that characterize contemporary life. Costarring in the play, which is being performed on al Sham Cinema Theater, are Fayez Qazaq and Wafaa Muselli.
Ela Zawal (Coming to an End) is another new Syrian play scripted by Suleiman al Hajj and directed by Ali Sattouf. It casts light on the racial nature of the Zionist enemy and the brutal atrocities committed by the Zionist leaders against the defenseless Palestinians. The play sheds light on the heroic resistance put up by the Palestinian people in confrontation of the Zionist atrocious crimes.
The director told the daily that the play focuses on the blood thirst of the Zionist leaders and their ideology which is based on fabricated ideas and illogical allegations.
Meanwhile, the Syrian play Raas al Mamluk Jaber (The Head of the Mameluk Jaber) which was performed in the mid of the 1970s, will be performed next month in Belgium.
In Syria, director Maamoun al Khatib will present his play Afkar (Ideas) which tells the story of three women who meet in the cemetery and talk about their experience and the hardships of life.
Al Khatib has directed several successful plays including Haet al Qeddiseen (The Well of Saints), al Aqwa (The Strongest) and al Hobb al Athim (The Great Love) – Albawaba.com
