The series Fares al Romansiyyah (Romance Knight) scripted by Amirah Abu al Futooh about the late Egyptian writer Yousef al Sibae’i is still facing problems, according to the daily al Hayat.
After overcoming the obstacles regarding the production, censorship and selecting Hisham Abdel Hamid for playing the starring role and Hani Lashin for directing it, Abdel Hamid sent his regret suddenly and Lashin followed taking the series back to square one.
Efforts are now being made to seek new director and star for the series which explores the life history of the Egyptian writer who was assassinated in Cyprus in 1978 because of his support for late president Sadat in signing the peace treaty Camp David with Israel.
The series explores the life history of the writer since he was born in Cairo in 1917 and his debut in writing a story in the New Magazine in 1931. The series will track the writer when he joined the military college; assumed the post as a director of the War Museum in 1952; becoming the secretary of the Higher Council for Arts; becoming chief of Writers and Cinema Critics Association until he became the Minister of Culture and chief of Asia and Africa Writers Union.
The series also tackles Sibae’i’s writing career and the adaptation of a number of his novels into important films including Bain al Atlal (Between Ruins), Nahnu La Nazraa al Shawk (We Do not Plant Thorns), Nadia, al Sakka Mat, Rudda Qalbi, Enni Rahilah (I am Leaving) and Ardh al Nifaq (Land of Hypocrisy) -- Albawaba.com
