Egyptian singer Shireen Abd Al Wahab denied recent allegations that she refused to singer with Saudi Arabian actress Maysoon Abd Al Aziz in the entertainment program “Duo Al Mashaheer” (Duet with the stars) that is aired on one of the Lebanese satellite channels, because Maysoon is a Saudi.
Shireen stressed that director Tony Qahwaji can vouch for her that during rehearsals for the program she had practiced singing with three Gulf contestants taking part in the program.
The singer said that she had previously presented an entire album in the Gulf dialect proving that she would never oppose singing with someone from Saudi Arabia or any other Gulf country. She added that it is illogical for her to act in such a manner and insult her friends in the Gulf region.
According to internet website MBC.net, on the other hand, Maysoon publicly stated that Shireen had refused to sing with her a duet on the program assuming that she is against singing with a Saudi or someone from the Gulf.
Maysoon said that the organizers of the program had requested her to practice singing the song by Shireen “Ana Mish Bita’it Kalam” (I am not a talker) and had informed her that she will be singing it with Shireen. Maysoon had practiced the song for a period of three days and when Shireen was notified that she will be singing the song with Maysoon she bluntly said that she does not singer with Saudis or anyone from the Gulf and threw the microphone and walked away.
