The third Shams Youth Festival will be opened Thursday in the Lebanese capital Beirut and will continue until March 27, 2001, the international theater day.
In his capacity as a screenwriter, actor and director, the Syrian artist Bassam Kousa will be honored at the festival through screening his documentary and narrative films.
“There will be unique features which attract large audience such as the British show which has been invited in collaboration with the British Cultural Council and which combines video art with theater. This is in addition to the artwork of the Lebanese youth abroad such as Omar Rajeh who performed in Beirut Sifran, ” Hanan Haj Ali told the daily al Nahar, adding that there would be short films by universities , independent Lebanese films and others from Germany, Greece, turkey and France. This is in addition to gesture, dance, acting, and music shows.
Ali added, “we invited varied and unique features such as Delfanto which is a dancing show that combines four dancers from different nationalities including Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy. From Tunisia Salim al Sahanji and his troupe will participate in the festival. The young director will present two plays; Safar (Travel) and Saat Hobb (One Hour of Love) which won the prize for best work at Cartage last festival.
Among the participants will be also the show solo along with Karima Mansour from Egypt who is a dancer trained in England. She then became student of Piatrides who leads the Chai Chai international African troupe. The show will be presented on March 8, the International Woman Day. Besides, a concert entitled Makamat Min Salah Jahin will be performed along with the young singer Dunia from Alexandria who will sing songs for the late actress Suad Hosni written by Jahin for her films.” – Albawaba.com
