Egyptian folk singer Shabaan Abdul Rahim has completed filming a new music video for the song “Ma Bahibish El Irhab” (I Don’t Like Terrorism), which he dedicated to the late Lebanese PM Rafiq Al Hariri, who was assassinated in February. Shabaan revealed that he was very upset when he watched the assassination of Rafiq and so he began asking about him and found out that he was a good man loved by all, a matter that prompted him to create a song.
Shabaan stressed that despite the fact that he did not Rafiq, he was very angry at the existence of terrorism, adding that he is positive Israel had a hand in the assassination. Rahim has become famous for singing his point of view about politicians and discussing in his songs the entire political situation the region and the world are going through. Shabaan adds that he fears some of his songs may backfire, yet he is willing to face anything as long as his thoughts are being expressed.
Shabaan’s latest song is entitled “Ya Sit Condoleeza Rice” (Ms. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleeza Rice), in which he addresses her asking her to take it easy on Arabs and treat them with some kindness. He refers to her as the daughter of Hajj Ruza (meaning the grain rice) as a form of mockery. The song is filled with sarcasm of Dr. Rice and the United States and how their actions are apposite of what they preach.
