A call has been made to all singers and belly-dancer to try and be more conservative during the holy month of Ramadan, which has in more ways than one put a halt on all seductive music videos either for female or male singers. Some singers have on their own decided to stop screening their videos as a sign of respect to the holy months, and others preferred to wait and launch new clips during the holidays.
Egyptian belly-dancer Lucy decided to postpone filming her second music video until the holy month ends as was the case with Egyptian singer Ruby. Ruby also announced that she will not release her upcoming music video during Ramadan and will wait until the holidays.
Tunisian belly-dancer and singer Najla, who had released a very provocative music video that gave rise to sever criticism, has announced that she will not hold any dance performances throughout Ramadan and revealed that she will make it a point to appear in more appropriate outfits.
On a similar note, the censorship committee at the new Arab satellite music channel Nogoom has decided to ban the airing of songs that are classified as inappropriate for the average viewers and which contain seductive scenes and females wearing revealing outfits. Officials at the network revealed that broadcasting such demeaning songs goes against Arab social and traditional values and should not be allowed to be aired.
The banning will include all songs for Ruby, who is considered one of the top seductive singers. Najla will also be banned from the channel along with other songs by different singers that include improper scenes.
The management of the channel has also decided to go over all the songs it broadcasts on its different channels, Nogoom TV and Nogoom Al Khaleeg, to ensure that no inappropriate material is being aired. The channel has made it a point since it began its broadcast six months ago to refrain from broadcasting English and Western music, due to the scenes in most of the clips. –Albawaba.com
