Lebanese singer Sami Hawwat has recently performed many concerts dedicated to the soul of his friend George Yamin “Nather al Rayahin”, the poet who passed away more than a year ago, according to the daily al Hayat.
Hawwat, the committed Lebanese artist whose revolutionary caricatures used to attract the Lebanese youth. He had a thick beard and used to wear a beret like the one worn by Givara.
Hawwat started his artistic career at the theater of Ziad al Rhabani as singer and actor through many plays including the play “American Long Film”. He also sang many songs for Rahabani including those he included in his cassette Ana Mish Kafer (I am not a Misbeliever) in the middle of the eighties in addition to some songs from the cassette Hudooa Nisbi (Relative Calm).
After separation from Rahabani, Hawwat collaborated with the poet and composer Makhoul Qasouf in joint artworks including Shubbak al Hala, Rito al Qamar and Kif Ansa (How would I Forget). This is in addition to his new production, which includes the song Shaifak Malbouk Bhalak written by him and Beirut La by George Yamin.
At his recent concerts, Hawwat performed a variety of songs in the styles of Makhoul Qasouf and Ziad al Rahabani such as Rouh Khabber, Bala Wala Shee and shoo Halayyam. He also performed songs in the style of Sheikh Imam including Ana Toub A’n Hobbak and in the flaring protesting and satire style as is the case with the songs al Fil inspired from a play by Saadallah Wannous and Ahad al Ekhwan written by poet Mohammed al Abdulla in addition to al Rai al A’m written by George Yamin -- Albawaba.com
