A Cairo court has sentenced the local Egyptian artist Saed Al Saghir to one year in prison and to pay 1,000 Egyptian pounds in fines, after a scandalous clip of him and a belly dancer Wala Sayed Mahmoud engaged in sexual activity was aired over the internet.
The dancer, known as Waed, was acquitted of all charges.
The case goes back to 9 November 2008, when the police in Al Jizah county arrested Saed and Waed.
Saed said that if the dancer Waed was acquitted, then he should be too. He also asserts that the clip did not contain sexual behavior of a graphic nature, but was only “flirting” to encourage fans to interact with his music.
“I never intended to hurt anyone,” said Saed.
Saed claims one of his competitors circulated the scandalous clip to disparage him.
