Egyptian actor Ahmed Maher will soon begin rehearsing for a play based on Shakespeare's Othello - but with a twist that updates his role to that of Princess Diana's 20th century paramour Dody Al Fayed, according to the London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.
The events of the new play take place in the modern age, with the character Desdemona portrayed as an equivalent to Princess Diana in the 20th century love story that ended in tragedy. It is the romance between Dody Al Fayed and Princess Diana, which had the same ending as the one met by Othello and his lover.
The director, Mohammed Al Khooli, is currently choosing the cast of the play, which is scheduled to be performed after the Fitr Feast at the Hanager Theater.
Maher will begin rehearsals after he wraps up the shooting of the series Al Sirah Al Hilaliyyah, directed by Hani Ismael.
In the series, Maher plays the character Diab who decides to go to the rear in the struggle between the evil forces in the east and west and the forces of good represented by Abu Zeid Al Hilali.
