A California court has released a verdict against prominent Egyptian actor Omar El Sharif and fined him 318 thousands US dollars. The fine was to be paid to a restaurant waiter, Juan Anderson, that Omar was accused of assaulting verbally and physically.
According to the London based Elaph, the incident had occurred in 2005 at a restaurant in Beverly Hills California. Omar had given Juan 20 Euros as a tip, which the latter refused to accept. The waiter’s refusal to accept the tip angered Omar, who started beating the waiter and called him a stupid Mexican.
Juan filed a lawsuit against Omar accusing him of being a racist. A year after the incident, a US court ordered Omar to undergo 15 hours of psychological therapy and put him under probation for two years. The verdict was placed on the actor due to his uncontrolled anger that he must overcome.
On his part, Omar’s lawyer had denied that the actor made such remarks and considered the entire lawsuit as silly, adding that there were many witnesses who can prove that Omar did not commit any racial crime.
