ALBAWABA - Chainsaw Man is once again the talk of the internet after scientists named a newly discovered prehistoric shark species after its beloved and adorable mascot, Pochita.
According to Dexerto, Pochitaserra patriciacanalesae's fossilized remains were discovered in Chile’s Bahía Inglesa Formation in the Atacama Region. The decision to name it Pochita was in an effort to blend pop culture with paleontology.
Researcher Martín Chávez Hoffmeister said, "This combination seemed like a good way to connect palaeontology with popular culture."

Aside from Pochita, the fossilized species was also named after respected Chilean paleontologist Patricia Canales to honor her career in marine fossil research before she passed away in 2022.
Renders of Pochitaserra patriciacanalesae were created by artists capturing an orange-tinted sawshark that resembles Pochita.
Created by Japanese mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man quickly gained traction among anime fans after receiving an animated adaptation by Studio Mappa in 2022.
Additionally, following the successful release of Ufotable's Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie, Mappa also dropped Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc into international cinemas, garnering a larger global audience for its stunning visuals, well-written characters, and compelling storyline.
