Egyptian actress Nelly Kareem has isolated herself to write the screenplay for her first film, “Ballerina.”
The plot revolves around a famous ballerina who is homebound and forced to resign from dancing after a debilitating accident.
The ballerina must fend for herself, forcing her to find jobs in restaurants and hotels. Eventually she finds a position as a room service maid, where meets a young man and falls in love.
Throughout the course of events, she finds a doctor specialized in treating her condition and is cured, enabling her to dance once again.
Nelly recently took part in the film “Safara fil Binaya” (An Embassy in the Building) alongside prominent Egyptian comedian-actor Adel Imam.
The film revolves around an Egyptian petrol engineer who has lived in Dubai for a quarter of a century. He finally returns to Egypt only to discover that the Israeli Embassy is located right next door to his home.
The film for the first time presents a character that plays the role of the Israeli ambassador.
Adel clarified that the film attempts to explain why Egyptians refused normalization of relations with Israel until now, and rationalizes the viewpoint of ordinary citizens toward Israel and other nations with which Egypt has signed a peace treaty. In Adel’s words, “The film sends the message that art plays the most important and influential role to reflect the feelings of people.”
On a different note, Nelly recently divorced Egyptian businessman Baha Sabri, after a marriage that lasted only six months. The actress refused to comment on the reasons for her divorce, stating that it is a private matter she does not wish to share.
