Lebanese Singer Nancy Ajram was appointed the new goodwill ambassador to the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), AFP reported last week.
In her role as goodwill ambassador Ajram will help raise awareness of children’s issues, particularly early childhood development, child protection, education and youth participation.
Ajram is the second UNICEF regional ambassador after Egyptian actor Mahmoud Kabil, who congratulated Ajram from an IDP – internally displaced persons - camp in Yemen via videoconference, welcoming her to the UNICEF family.
Kabil held his position as ambassador since 2003.
The pop singer Aajram expressed her happiness to hold such a title and thanked all those present for standing by her.
“It’s a lifelong dream come true,” said Ajram, describing her new position as “one of the most important achievements of my life as an artist, a human being and as a mother.”
She also thanked UNICEF.
