Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram was held as one of the main highlights of the Egyptian Spring Festival Sham Al Nasim, which was sponsored by the Egyptian television network. During the event, a request by an Egyptian parliament member was sent to the Minister of Information to prohibit Egyptian television from airing and sponsoring such events and singers like Nancy, with the justification that Egypt needs to give support to the Iraqi people at the current time and not sponsor such entertaining events.
The argument of the parliament member was that it is very inconsiderate and inappropriate for Egyptian television to preoccupy people with foolish entertainment by singers like Nancy at a time when Iraqi people are suffering at the hands of the American invaders and bloodshed is seen by the hour. It was added that instead of dedicating efforts on covering events in Iraq, Egyptian television is wasting its time broadcasting concerts and foolish nonsense.
The member stressed that what loss is there if Nancy and her likes did not attend such events and sang their songs to celebrate spring in Egypt? The mere fact that people are being brainwashed with such events hurts the intelligence of the Arab world and drifts them away from what is important.
Recently, Ajram revealed that she will be taking part in the big concert scheduled to take place in Cairo-Egypt featuring international Spanish heartthrob Enrique Iglesias. The concert will be held at the Egyptian International Media City on April 17, 2004.
The concert is part of a Middle East tour Enrique is holding and is expected to witness enormous success. Nancy has stressed that her participation in the concert will surely add to her music career and it’s an experience she looks forward with excitement.
The Arab music satellite channel Melody will be airing Enrique’s tour and has prepared several quiz shows for viewers with chances to win free tickets to the concerts, in addition to a grand prize, which is a chance to hold a personal interview with the international singer. Enrique’s first stop is in Dubai on April 15, 2004 after which he will head directly to Cairo. –Albawaba.com
