Lebanese singer Najwa Karam decided to hold a concert in celebration of her latest album "Sahirni" (Mesmerized) on June 24, 2003 in Beirut. The satellite channel ART bought the rights to air the event live, and Tony and Mirna Abu Elias will direct the concert that will take place in the outdoors and will be open for all of Najwa's fans to attend without charge.
The music production company Rotana is currently undergoing all necessary preparations, since it is the company that produced Najwa's album, reported the London based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat. It was revealed that the big event is Najwa's way of saying thank you to all her devoted fans and is a gift from the heart. Another reason behind Najwa's gift is the fact that Najwa had sworn not to film anymore music videos and so the concert is her way of telling people not to forget her.
Najwa has decided that she will perform most of the songs from her new album. She added that after the concert, the event will turn into a press conference where she will be ready to answer any questions the press may have.
Rotana had released Najwa’s album last week, which is the singers return to the traditional folkloric Lebanese style. The singer has worked with a number of prominent Lebanese poets and composers to complete the work.
The album is to mark Najwa's last album with Rotana according to a contract she has with them, which will be terminated after the release. It is still unclear whether or not Najwa will renew her contract.
Najwa stressed that she will never again film any of her songs in the form of a music video. Najwa’s decision came after the failure of her last music video for the song “Iw’a Itkoun Za’ilit” (I Hope you are not Upset), which did not witness any interest among viewers or even herself.
Karam made her debut in the music world in 1985, with her participation in “Layali Lobnan” (Nights of Lebanon) performing Asmahan’s song “Layali Al Ons” (Nights of Pleasure). She was awarded the program’s Golden Medal for her outstanding performance at the event. – Albawaba.com
