Young Egyptian actress Muna Zaki refused to comment over the problems she has faced with her latest film “Ahlam Umrina” (Our Life’s Dreams), which is scheduled for release in Cairo this month.
Muna stated, “This film is not mine, and so I will not attack it in a negative way,” adding “the important thing is the lessons I have learned from this experience.”
Muna stressed that she will not attend any of the premiers for the film and wants nothing to do with it.
The film’s production has faced several problems over the past two years, some of which resulted from the producers, and others which emanated from Egyptian actor Yousif Shabaan and director Othman Abu Al Laban.
Shabaan and Al Laban eliminated several of Muna’s scenes, giving her only a minor role.
As a result Muna refused to continue working on the film, leading the producer to file a lawsuit against her.
Muna, who is known to be a dedicated actress, threatened to file a counter suit against the producer based on his violation of her basic rights as an actress.
The producer withdrew his complaint.
It remains to be seen how this series of disputes will affect the success of the film upon its release.
On a similar note, director Mohammad Yasseen has denied recent allegations that a fight broke out between Egyptian actresses Yusra and Muna on the set of their upcoming film “Dam Ghazal” (Deer’s Blood).
Yasseen was shocked by the rumor, and questioned how people can fabricate such lies and publish them without validation. However, she later revealed that there was a minor dispute between the actresses.
The director characterized the relationship between Yusra and Muna as one based on mutual respect.
