Egyptian comedy star Mohammed Sobhi has said that there is a difference between the comic plays he performs and trivial theatrical performances that should be shunned by the audience.
In remarks to Albawaba.com, the star said, “I believe these performances do not attract the audience who come to us because we do respect their minds with plays that are a blend of culture and fun with a human touch.”
Sobhi, who took leading roles in more than 23 comic, and other films in addition to 10 TV series is seen by critics as a key figure in the history of the Egyptian stage.
“There is no human being with no suffering, particularly in our consuming, senseless and aggressive societies where even art and culture have become a provocative means of generating money.
“For an artist to be able to make people laugh, he has to make sure that his audience want to laugh, and at the same time have respect for the actor,” said Subhi.
He revealed that after he wraps up shooting his role in the series Fares Bila Gawad (a knight with no horse) he would turn to directing video clips. His first step in that direction will be a video for Simon’s new song “Ela Mata Ya Qalbi” -- Albawaba.com
