Prominent Egyptian actress Mervat Amin is currently holding work sessions with scenarist Samah Al Hariri to finalize the details of her upcoming television drama “Awdat Al Madi” (Return of the Past), which she had recently signed a contract to star the leading role in. Filming of the drama is scheduled to begin in the upcoming few weeks, a matter that led her to turn down an invitation to be part of a judging committee in a film festival in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Morocco.

According to the Egyptian based weekly, Al Nogoom, Mervat has expressed her joy at taking part of the drama, which she stresses tackles important social issues. The drama revolves around a woman who commits a crime and serves 25 five years in jail and once she is free she encounters numerous obstacles that make it impossible for her to live a normal life. Prominent director Majdi Abu Ameireh, who is currently reading the script, has been nominated to direct the drama.

Amin returned to TV drama after several years sabbatical by taking the starring role in the drama series “Yahia Al Adel” (Long Lives Justice) as Farida. The series tackles the issue of money laundering and depicts the September 11 attacks in the United States.

On a different note, Egyptian director Mohammad Khan had succeeded in reuniting two great Egyptian actresses Najlaa Fathy and Mervat Ameen after 25-years of being apart, in a new film for the big screen.
