Film director Rafat Al Mihi has nominated Lebanese singer/actress Maya Nasri for the leading role in the first drama he will be directing. The new drama is titled “Wikalit Attieh” (Attieh’s Agency), which is written by Khairi Shilbi and will costar a number of prominent actors like Hussein Fahmi, Ahmad Budair, Ahmad Azmi, Mohammad Mitwali, Hannan Mitawi’, and Riyadh Al Khouly.
The theme of the new drama is a social one that revolves around different situations faced by the lowest class of people who live in cemeteries because they cannot afford to live anywhere else.
The drama will dig deep into the lives of such people, and Shilbi writes the story line from actual experiences he had gone through when he was forced to lead such a life in the past and live in a cemetery for several years. Through his life’s experience he was able to capture the smallest details of people’s lives and portrays them in the drama.
Al Mihi has revealed that the drama will be one of the most important works for 2008, especially since it is written by one of the most prominent writers and is the same story he had won many awards for. He added that the events in the drama are not the usual ones seen in television dramas and no one has gone to that part of the world and focused on the lives of such individuals.
According to the London based Elaph, Al Mihi refused to reveal the details of Maya’s role, stating that her role will certainly be a major surprise to all audiences and she will be portrayed in a style never used in any of her previous works. He adds that his nomination for Maya was based on the fact that he was so impressed with her role in the recent drama “Sultan Al Gharam” (Sultan of Love), which was aired during the holy month of Ramadan.
