Though it was earlier confirmed that pop singer Madonna and British director Guy Ritchie were planning a 2001 wedding, now comes the news that the Material Girl and her beau are not engaged, reported Mr. Showbiz.
"There are no wedding plans," Madonna's rep, Liz Rosenberg, told Mr. Showbiz. "Madonna is not engaged."
This invalidates earlier confirmation from Rosenberg, who decided to retract her comments on Madonna's betrothal after speaking with the pop star.
In an interview published on November 24 in British tabloid The Sun, Madonna was quoted as saying that "Guy has asked me to marry him, and I've said yes, but we haven't decided when yet." The performer's rep confirmed Tuesday to several American publications that yes, Madonna is engaged.
Is this a case of cold feet, or just PR spin control? Rosenberg told MTV that Madonna's comments to The Sun had been taken out of context.
One thing is for sure: The performer has been wearing a large diamond ring from Ritchie since August, when she gave birth to their son, Rocco.
However, it is well known that many socialites give their wives diamonds to celebrate the birth of new child.
