The competition between Egyptian singers is at its fieriest this week as singers enter studios to put the final touches on songs and prayers for the upcoming fasting month of Ramdan.
According to the London-based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, singer Mohammed Fuad started the mad-race early this week, with the recording of a song entitled “Ya Barakat Ramadan” (Blessings of Ramadan), written by Antar Hilal and composed by Hasan Dunia. Singer Eman Al Bahr Darweesh was next as he finished recording several prayers and a new song entitled “Shahr Al Ghufran” (The Month of Forgiveness) for poet Awad Badawi.
Things escalated after pop icon Amr Diab began his recording of several prayers following an agreement he signed with one of the satellite TV channels earlier this month. The five-minute prayers, which all hold the same name "Ya Rab Al Kaon" (God of this Universe), will mark Diab's debut in religious songs.
"I wanted to take this challenge a long time ago... the only reason behind accepting the project at this time, is that I see it the most appropriate time for doing so," Diab said, denying all rumors saying that he's trying to compete with other singers, who are doing similar work.
Diab refused to disclose the figure he took for this agreement, but said that the project will mark the first time he has worked with both writer Baha' Al Deen Mohammed and composer Khaled Al Ameer. – Albawaba.com
