Despite her preoccupation with recording the episodes for her Ramadan radio drama “Yalli Biladak Ba’eeda” (You whose Land is Far) for the Middle Eastern radio station, prominent Egyptian actress Laila Elwi is also preoccupied with preparing for an international film alongside renowned actor John Paltro and a number of stars from around the Arab world and abroad.

The new film “Al Ahramat bi laon al Mafia” (The Pyramids in the Color of the Mafia) is a joint Egyptian Swedish production.

The film revolves around the destruction of historical monuments in Egypt, and the life of one woman who is seeking the remains of her lost lover who died during WWII. The woman (played by Laila) is a foreigner and comes to Egypt to see if she will be able to find any clues regarding her husband's whereabouts.

Filming of the production will take place in a number of Swedish villages and historical sights in Egypt.  The film’s budget has been set at 15 million US dollars to accommodate the on-location filming.

Laila denied circulating rumors that she intends on resigning from the cinema after the crisis she faced with her latest film “Bahib El Cima” (I Love the Cinema).

Laila also asserted that she is not romantically involved with a man who has asked for her hand in marriage on the condition that she resigns from the cinema. Laila stressed that the thought of resigning never occurred to her.

It has been rumored that Laila is involved with one of the wealthiest men in the Arab world.
